| Beschreibung: | Rising market power has raised concerns about its potential origins, causes, and consequences. In this cumulative dissertation, I study possible contributing factors with a focus on Europe, particularly Germany: common ownership, the 2008 financial crisis, and corporate profit taxes. I apply methods from empirical industrial organisation and causal inference, while relying on insights from several other strands of academic work in other related fields, such as international trade and public finance. Together, these studies aim to address different angles of how firm behaviour and product market outcomes respond to changes in market structures, demand disruptions, and tax policy. | |||||||
