| Beschreibung: | The contribution of this dissertation is twofold: In Chapters 2 and 3, I demonstrate how ignoring heterogeneity in the local retail landscape leads to biased demand estimates and distorts popular measures such as price elasticities and upward-pricing pressure (UPP) - a popular merger screening tool - inferred from structural models of demand and supply. Chapters 4, 5, and 6 present routines written for the widely used statistical software package Stata. The first allows users to compute various forms of elasticities and marginal effects for mixed logit models. The second enables users to obtain geographical coordinates from addresses and to translate coordinates into addresses. The third routine is for computing various distance measures and takes geographical coordinates as inputs. | |||||||
