Beschreibung: | This thesis explores the intersection of disability and trauma studies through a literary analysis of Hanya Yanagihara’s novel A Little Life (2015). While disability studies traditionally focus on dismantling societal barriers and promoting activism, and trauma studies delve into the narrative formation and impact of trauma, these two fields rarely intersect.
A Little Life exemplifies the inseparable nature of disability and trauma, particularly through the experiences of the protagonist, Jude St. Francis. Jude's life, marked by severe trauma and resulting disability, illustrates how pain, grief, and loss are integral to the disability experience. By examining content elements, narrative temporality, and the portrayal of Jude's body as a site of trauma, the paper demonstrates how the novel navigates the ambivalences and unspeakabilities of trauma and disability. | |||||||
