In this work the PIROS-method was developed and implemented, which helps to clarify the orientation of molecules in oriented substrates by polarized infrared spectroscopy. As a model system the phenazine molecule was used. Here, crystals and microcrystalline films on a NaCl surface were mounted in a specially constructed rotating unit and analyzed by infrared spectroscopy. These spectra were compared to the measured gas phase spectra and with simulated vibrational spectra calculated with the help of the CC2-pVTZ-method. Herefrom it is possible to determine the assignment of the bands to the respective band types. From the data of the PIROS-method the projection of the three vectors of the change of dipole moment a, b and c could be found on the plane of polarization of the IR light. By a numerical evaluation the vectors in space could be determined from the projections of the vectors of the change of the dipole moment. These vectors lead to the resulting vectors of the change of the dipole moment of the unit cell which shows the orientation of the unit cell in the crystal or in the microcrystalline film. | |||||||
