The aggregation of dyes like carotenoids plays an important role in nature (e.g. photosynthesis, and in industrial applications (e.g. food colouring). Some physical properties, like the absorption spectra, can change, when the dyes aggregate. Of particular interest in this respect are small aggregates consisting of only few molecules. Therefore in this PhD thesis 16 new chiral bichromophore model compounds and diverse monochromophore reference compounds were synthesised. Polyenacids were coupled with bifunctional spacer compounds using PyCloP, CDMT, DCC and by means of other methods. The distance or rather the geometry of the chromophores was diversified by selecting different spacer molecules. Also the length of the polyenchain was varied. The model compounds were studied regarding their aggregation behaviours with UV/Vis- and CD-spectroscopy in different solvents (acetone, chloroform) and solvent systems (acetone/water) and the results were discussed. | |||||||
